FAQS

If you are a current client, I prefer you use the secure messaging in your client portal to contact me. Otherwise, email is the best way to reach me. You can also contact me via phone call or text message. Please note as I am often in sessions with clients, I am not readily available to answer the phone or respond to messages.
I only check messages and respond during business hours. If you reach out to me outside of business hours, please expect a response back during regular business hours.

Both – I see clients in person in Wilmington, NC, and offer virtual sessions across North Carolina.
-
No. At this time I’m only able to provide virtual appointments to individuals located in North Carolina.
-
The length of your session and how often we meet will depend on your specific therapeutic needs and your goals.
Typically, a session lasts about 55 minutes, though you can expect your first appointment to be a bit longer. I find that most people do best meeting weekly or every other week in the beginning and then decreasing to less frequent appointments as they begin to make progress.
-
I currently see clients Monday-Thursday. The times can vary, but generally I am available between 8-4.
-
I ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, are subject to a late cancellation or “no show” fee of $85.
-
As long as you can arrive within 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment time, then we can still meet, although your session may be shorter as a result. If you are later than 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, then we will have to cancel your appointment and you will be charged the late cancellation or “no show” fee. Either way, please reach out and let me know that you are running late!

Mostly, the first session is about getting a feel for each other. We'll talk about what brought you here and some of the history behind it, at whatever depth feels okay to you that day. You're welcome to ask me questions too – about my approach, my background, anything that helps you decide whether this feels like the right fit. Before we wrap up, we'll start naming what you'd like to be different and what you hope to get out of our time together.
-
If you'd like to use your insurance benefits, a diagnosis is required for reimbursement. I'll talk through what that means with you before it happens, and you're welcome to ask questions about how it works, what it means long-term, or whether self-pay might be a better fit if you'd rather not have one on record.
-
This is a hard one to answer, as it’s different for each person. But some things that you might consider are:
Does conversation feel organic and not forced?
As much as is possible for you, do you feel comfortable and safe in sessions?
Do you leave sessions feeling heard and understood?
Do you feel that your therapist is knowledgeable about the issues or diagnosis that you’re coming to therapy for?
Are there clear goals or direction for treatment, and do you feel that you and your therapist are addressing what you came to therapy for?
If it turns out we're not the right fit, please know that you can tell me. A good fit with your therapist is the foundation for change and success in therapy. There are so many great therapists in Wilmington and across North Carolina, and I am happy to help you find the right fit for you!
-
No. You're always in control of what we talk about and when. Part of my job is helping you feel safe enough that hard things can come up naturally, at a pace that works for you.
-
There's no set timeline. Some people come for a specific season of life, others stay longer to keep building on what we've worked through. We'll check in regularly about how things are going and what feels right for you.
